About this course
A1/2 is the second step of the “speak from day 1” programme and completes the full A1 level. It builds directly on A1/1 — this is not a course for absolute beginners, but for students continuing their journey. We keep working with sentence patterns and dialogues, now adding real communication tools: dative and prepositions, adjective + noun patterns, dass/wenn-sentences, comparatives, the past tense, numbers to 1000, werden, plus many useful connectors, fillers, and fixed expressions. Every lesson combines speaking practice, question-and-answer drills, and telling small stories from real life. By the end of A1/2, you don't just know the A1 grammar — you can actually use it confidently in real conversations.
Learning outcomes
Speak more fluently and with more control, while still using simple language
The structures are still basic, but you'll be able to say much more with them. The focus stays firmly on fluency and practical speaking.
Describe people, things, and situations in more detail
You use adjectives more confidently, so your German becomes more colourful and specific.
Use dative and accusative in important everyday sentence patterns
You understand how German handles the receiver of an action, and how two objects can appear in one sentence.
Talk about place and movement more naturally
You work with important prepositions and learn how German expresses location and direction.
Use reflexive verbs in everyday communication
Common verbs needed in normal life situations — meeting, resting, washing, being interested in something.
Build longer and more connected sentences
You start using dass and wenn clauses, letting you express opinions, wishes, explanations, and conditions more clearly.
Talk about the past in a basic but practical way
An essential introduction to how German talks about past events, especially with the Perfect tense — the backbone of everyday spoken German.
Ask and answer questions about past experiences
You can talk about what happened, what you did yesterday, and how a situation was.
Handle larger numbers, dates, and time expressions more securely
Useful for appointments, birthdays, plans, schedules, and everyday facts.
Express opinions and reasons more clearly
By the end of A1/2, you can already say what you think, what you want, and why.
